Algebra Honors (Periods 5 & 6)

Dividing Real Numbers 2-9
Quotient a divided by b or a ÷b should be written as a fraction
a/b
Definition of division --> Which we abbreviated as Def (÷)
a÷ b = a ⋅(1/b)
to divide by a non zero number, multiply by its reciprocal

a+b
c
= a/c + b/c
where c ≠ 0
and

a-b
c
= a/c - b/c

Justifying leads us to the following:
(a+b)/c
= (a+b)(1/c) --> def (÷)
=(a ⋅ 1/c) + (b ⋅ 1/c) --> DP
=a/c + b/c --> def (÷)
