Pre Algebra (Period 2 & 4)

Subtracting Integers 1-6

NEVER SUBTRACT!!!!!! ADD THE OPPOSITE!

I call it the DOUBLE CHECK method because you always change 2 signs:

1) Change the subtraction sign to an addition sign (check)

2) Change the subtrahend's sign (the second number's sign) to its opposite
(if it was negative, change it to positive and
if it had no sign then put in a negative because no sign meant it was positive)
(double check)

3)Follow the rules of integer addition,

Examples:

-5 - (-10) =
-5 + (+10) = 5

-5 - 10 =
-5 + (-10)
= -15

MORE THAN 1 SUBTRAHEND?

DOUBLE CHECK EACH ONE!

BY THE WAY, NEVER EVER CHANGE THE FIRST NUMBER'S SIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!
